In 2002, India was witness to brutal
communal violence in Gujarat, where a mass killing of more than 2000
people, mostly Muslims, took place. Many national and international
human rights commissions and groups have charged the Hindutva (Hindu
fundamentalist) movement with carrying out this and other systematic
hate actions against minority and disenfranchised groups in India.
Substantial funding for Hindu fundamentalism is raised in the United
States. Evidence suggests strong connections between some charity
organizations in the US and Hindutva groups. One such organization
is the India Development Relief Fund (IDRF).
The report, THE
FOREIGN EXCHANGE OF HATE, co-published by Sabrang Communications,
India, and South Asia Citizens Web (SACW), France, offers important
evidence about the Hindutva movement, and links IDRF to it.
The CAMPAIGN TO STOP FUNDING HATE is committed
to stop the flow of hate money into India. This campaign is based
upon the above report. The campaign plans on targeting some of the
main financial institutions that provide IDRF with the infrastructural
means to receive such funds, urging these financial institutions
to close the IDRF account until IDRF can demonstrate that it has
severed all connections with the Hindutva movement.
Join in our commitment to a life free from persecution
for all peoples of the world. We invite you to read our PETITION that
was sent to these financial institutions. Your solidarity will enable
and empower the campaign.
